CITY COUNTRY CITY blends the casual charm of a neighborhood café with the textured vibe of an indie record store, tucked into the lively streets of Kitazawa in Setagaya. It’s a spot where locals and vinyl hunters intersect, drawn by the rotating selection of affordable records and a concise menu focused mainly on pasta and comforting café staples.

The space is compact, with only a handful of tables and bar stools, so expect some waiting during peak lunch hours. This intimate scale adds to the laid-back mood, especially in the evenings when the crowd tends to thin and the music takes center stage. It’s a good place to slow down with a coffee or an apple beer cocktail while flipping through crates of vinyl, which offer an eclectic mix of genres that cater to serious collectors and casual browsers alike.

The food leans heavily on Italian-inspired pasta dishes—creamy carbonara and tomato-based sauces stand out—as well as a few sweet treats like pumpkin and sweet potato cheesecakes, favored by regulars for their comforting flavors. While the pasta generally earns positive remarks, it’s best seen as a satisfying accompaniment to the overall experience rather than the main event.

Visitors who appreciate a low-key, music-infused environment will find this café-record store combo especially appealing. It works well for solo visits, casual dates, or small groups who enjoy browsing vinyl with a coffee or beer in hand. Evening hours feel particularly mellow and are ideal for those wanting to unwind without the hustle of a busy crowd.

Overall, CITY COUNTRY CITY fits neatly into the culturally rich Kitazawa neighborhood, offering a distinct experience where music and food quietly coexist. If you’re looking to combine a hunt for unique records with a relaxed meal or coffee break, this is a fitting stop that reflects the local vibe without unnecessary fuss.

Great place to unwind and have coffee listening to good music. They had a delicious cheesecake on the menu which we would happily have again. There are lots of different vinyl genres and all reasonably priced

Love pasta here It’s usually full in lunch hours, but dinner time isn’t that busy apparently! The vibe with lots of records disc Neapolitan is creamy for what I know but it was so good. The mentaiko one was also great! Cheese gnocchi is my fav too:)

They ONLY have pasta (just a heads up). Amazing spot for cheap vinyl records! Pasta is just okay. Went on a Sunday late morning and waited in line for an hour. Only 3 tables and 4 barstool seats.

This place had such a relaxing vibe at night time. I had the carbonara, apple beer cocktail and a chocolate gateau, all of which were delicious. If you’re after somewhere to chill and enjoy some good music, definitely check this place out.

This was one of the most exciting, cathartic finds in the heights of thrifting and exploring the hidden gold of Tokyo. City Country City holds a feeling of being transported into a moment of pure serenity— a loft of light above the streets, the hum of the vinyl and rustle of vinyl enthusiasts as they move through the archives and the smell of some of the most incredible pasta I’ve had dancing through the space. This served with a couple beers was magic and the service was wonderful. This place is unmatched in its real authenticity and feeling of peace. Easy to walk past and never know if it’s magnificence, keep an eye out for this discrete jewel!

This restaurant was beyond anything I have experienced. The food - incredible. The staff - amazing. The vibe - extraordinary. The food is extremely reasonably priced and tastes amazing. I had a mix-up ordering (my own fault!) and the staff were beyond accomodating and helpful. Do not miss this restaurant - I will be recommending to everyone I know who visits Japan!
